Backlinks

Backlinks, which are often called inbound links, are incoming links to a web page or the entire website which permit users to navigate from a given point on the internet to the page you are looking at within your browser. These inbound links are important to search engine rankings because many different search engines have algorithms that measure the number of backlinks a website or web page has, and ranks those web pages with more backlinks in a higher position.

Backlinks are extremely useful to search engines, because they give a good indication that a website is popular. Another website adding a link to you is essentially a vote for your website, as it shows their customers that they think your site is worth visiting.
